Guest Coaches Alexander Vlassov and Laura Amelina-Vlassov 
1-7 June 2015

Alex Vlassov represented the former Soviet Union as a pairs skater at the 1976 Winter Olympics, where he placed 4th, and was a medalist at two consecutive European and World Figure Skating Championships. He and his wife, Laura Amelina-Vlassov, relocated to the United States in 1994 and have coached in Philadelphia, New Hampshire / Massachusetts and are currently coaching at Tampa Bay Skating Academy in Florida, USA. Laura has had more than 25 years of coaching experience. With her ballet and dance background, she has choreographed many programs to different genres of music for her students of various skating abilities. They were nominated by the USFSA as the “PSA Developmental Coach of the Year” (top three finalists, 2004) and are very experienced in coaching single and pairs skaters from the beginners’ level to the national,international and World Championships level. Their star students, Julia Vlassova and Drew Meekins, won gold medal at the 2006 World Junior Figure Skating Championships.

During their visit to Singapore, Alex and Laura will be working with coaches and skaters of all levels. A partial list of their course offerings are as follows: 
Ice Lessons (all of below can be adjusted according to level of skater)
1.   Power Edges: Basic stroking plus Ina Bauer, transitions, spread eagles, split jumps, spirals etc (ideally 45 min)
2.   Edge Jumps: Salchow & Loop
3.   Toe Jumps: Toe loop & Flip
4.   Axel & Lutz
5.   Combination Jump I: Sequence jumps & using Toe Loop as 2nd jump
6.   Combination Jump II: Sequence jumps & using Loop as 2nd jump
7.   Basic Spins: Upright, Sit Spin, Camel
8.   Laybacks & Bielmans
9.   Flying Entrance Spins
10.  Spin Combinations I
11.  Spin Combination II
12.  Program evaluation (private class)
13.  Harness training available during selected sessions
Off Ice
1.   Jump Technique (level 1-5)
2.   Stretching for Skating
3.   Figure Skating Fitness
1.   The Right Way to Warm Up, Cool Down and Jump Rope
2.   Explaining the IJS System: balancing callers & judges
3.   Skating for the Judges: how to choreograph a winning program

Ice and off-ice lessons are still available but spots are limited.

Our Figure and Short Track Speed Skating Team Skaters on ice with the production crew and hosts for JUS, a magazine-information-talkshow introducing a segment called ‘Nak Jugak' where two of their hosts, radio DJ personalities, Dyn Norahim and AB Shaik are sent out to try various challenging activities to test their endurance!
