About Me - Moving to Beijing from America was probably the bane of my life at the age of 8 and a half. Everything was different. The sky was perpetually gray, there were construction sites everywhere and every gust of wind blew bucket of sand into your face. The skating rink across the street from my compound was probably the only thing that made Beijing feel like an amicable place. The consistent laughter of people skating and the continuous glide that one experiences when on the ice put me at ease like a lullaby. I fell in love with the sport. every living moment was spent pondering when I would be able to lace my skates up and get on ice. After 5 years of hard work I made my debut at the Singpaore National Skating Competition which I am so grateful for. Which brings me to today, still using every minute of my day to ponder when I will finally be able to land a triple lutz.

 About Me -

Brittany Lau , 14, started skating at the age of 6, inspired by world champion figure skater, Michelle Kwan. By the time she was 7, Brittany had won her first trophy and was even more determined to pursue figure skating as a competitive sport. When she was eight years old, Brittany moved to Singapore and qualified for the National youth team when she was 10 years old and for the National team when she was 11 years old. Brittany passed her Junior test in the SISA system in 2007. Brittany says "every competition teaches me something important about my sport and myself, how I handle pressure, how to take responsibility for my skate, how to analyze my results and, most importantly, how to win or lose with pride and grace." In 2008 summer, Brittany made a giant commitment to figure skating when she enrolled at a US boarding school with its own Olympic rink and skating school so she could receive more focused, dedicated training. "Being away from her family has been difficult," Brittany says, but the sacrifice will help her achieve her dreams of standing on an Olympic podium some day. "Many skaters dream about going to the Olympic Games, but the only way I'm going to get there is through hard work and training by great coaches," said Brittany. "I'm very lucky that my family is 100% behind me as I do my best to achieve my goals."

  About Me -

I started skating at the age of 9 ½, and have been skating ever since. Skating has taught me many important life lessons and values. It has coloured my world in many ways and given me many amazing opportunities. To me, the biggest achievement is when I step on the ice, and I am able to enjoy myself to the point where I forget about everything, get swept up in the moment and just perform with a smile on my face. It’s almost as if for that short period of time, I am in a world of my own. It’s the very thrill and exhilaration of competition and the joy of performing that I love about the sport.
